Latest Report: Away v Whitton United (Cup), Lost 0-3 (Sun 09 Mar 2008)
This cup semi final was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. Melford, playing against a strong wind, were the first team to show and from a Becky Howard corner, first Lindsey Stafford and then Lizzie Anderson both had shots scrambled away. On 15 minutes some slack marking in the Melford defence left the Whitton centre forward unmarked who fired an unstoppable shot past Alice Grindrod in the Melford goal. The game continued to be evenly contested when on 35 minutes a good Melford move ended with a Jess Casey shot from 25 yards striking the inside of the post and rebounding to safety. The second half started with Melford forcing a corner from which Lizzie Anderson saw her shot cleared off the line. On 55 minutes Whitton increased their lead. Melford continued to push forward with Symone Bromley twice going close. Just before the end, with Melford on the attack, Whitton broke away to score a third goal. This was a very good game of football with Melford running the league leaders very close and on another day, with luck going their way, the scoreline could have gone in Melford's favour.
