Melford produced a stunning performance to beat Halstead for the second time this season.. As predicted Halstead started very strong and only a superb one handed save from Ollie Green prevented Halstead taking an early lead. Halstead then forced a succession of corners but were unable to turn their pressure into goals due to excellent defensive work from Melford.
Halfway through the 1st half and the on fire Harvey Cawtheray gave Melford the lead when he ran onto Rob Jackson’s pass.Halstead tried to reply but they found Melford’s defence, Alfie Frost, Josh Bolton, Adam Clark and Jackson too strong and when Frost won the ball and passed to new signing Cameron Dolan-Roberts he beat 2 players before driving the ball home from an acute angle.
Melford were now flying and when the Halstead keeper could only parry Cawtheray’s shot Todd Cooper was on hand to make it 3-0.On the stroke of half time Cawtheray got his 2nd and the teams 4th after some neat interchange play between Cooper, Frost and Dolan-Roberts.
After the break both teams continued to press forward but with Melford’s back 4 and keeper in outstanding form Halstead rarely looked like scoring.On the other hand Melford were unfortunate not to add to their first half tally with both Jack Lavelle and Clark having efforts cleared off the line .
