Latest Report: Away v FC Clacton, Won 5-1 (Sun 28 Oct)

On a chilly windy morning by the sea, Melford produced a hard working performance. The team initially struggled to play their normal free flowing football against the strong wind. George Day was brought down in the box after a good run and converted the subsequent penalty. Clacton thought they had equalised only to see the linesmans flag raised for offside, they continued to cause the defence problems and the equaliser came after a long range shot flew in. Sam Bayliss worked hard up front but a half time it remained 1-1.

Melford had the wind behind them in the second half, Tom Wingfield and Harry Liskus got a grip of the midfield which created numerous chances. Sam Moorcroft gave Melford the lead with a fantastic strike from outside the box.  Logan Anderson outpaced the defence to make it 3-1 shortly with WIngfield drilling home shortly after to give us a 4-1 cushion. At this point, the defence of Austin, Seeley, Knowles, King, Arthurs and Bigg were rarely being troubled. Day completed the scoring with an overhead kick after a tremendous run and cross from Ashley Binfield on the right.

Final score 1-5 and another 3 points to make it eight wins out of eight.  The big test will come this Sunday when we take on Holland Blues who are also unbeaten, for a top of the table clash.

Home v Frinton & Walton United, Won 3-1 (Sun 09 Sep)

Long Melford Under 11 Colts kicked off the new season with a 3-1 win over Frinton & Walton Blues.  The defensive duo of Phil King and Charlie Austin were superb in breaking up early Frinton attacks with the home side struggling to play their normal passing game on a very bumpy pitch. Melford took the lead with a sweet strike by Tom Wingfield on then edge of the box scoring on his Melford debut.  Shots from George Day and Harry Liskus were well saved and it finished one nil at half time.  The second half saw a surging run from Joseph Arthurs which took him into the box only for the keeper to smother. Frinton equalised from close range after the ball wasn't cleared inside the box. Harry Liskus then restored the Melford advantage as he chased down a through ball which the keeper kicked straight at him, the ball falling into his path to tap into the empty net. Ashley Binfield then made it 3-1 as he superbly lobbed the keeper from an angle. Three points won but a tough start due to the heat and a very bumpy pitch.
