I would just like to take this chance to wish all the managers and players in the youth section the very best of luck for the new season. Hopefully, I will get a chance to see all of the teams at some point in the season.

It looks like an exciting year ahead, with an under 16 team in the Alliance and the new girls team, as well as the many other teams at various ages.

Here’s hoping you all open your seasons with wins on Sunday.

ANOTHER BIG STEP FORWARD FOR LONG MELFORD FC ON SUNDAY (September 06, 2007)

Sunday sees Long Melford make another big step in football when their first ever Girls team play their first ever match at Stoneylands.  The Under 16's Girls ,led by Phil Grindrod and Andy Long, take on Waveney Herons on the main pitch with a 11am kick off scheduled.

LMFC Colts Chairman Dave King said earlier today:

"On behalf of everyone associated with Long Melford Colts and the Main Club, we would like to wish Phil, Andy, the girls and their families the best of luck for the season and hope they have many enjoyable and successful times at Stoneylands."

COACHING FROM TONY FRENCH HELPS UNDER 10'S PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON (August 16, 2007)

One month on from the start of pre-season training and only positives to report. Tim Jackson’s training sessions have introduced, developed and enhanced the easy, relaxed passing style the boys have developed over the past two years and the football they are consistently playing is truly a joy to behold.

The boys are displaying a new focused attitude in training sessions which I believe is also largely due to Tony French's involvement. Having a bona-fide sporting hero make time for taking groups during training has had a hugely positive effect and from watching these sessions the change in the boys attitude is evident.

Peter Kerruish is continuing his good work with the goalkeepers, the level of enthusiasm and the intelligent drills that Peter uses has seen the keepers command their areas during games whilst putting opposing forwards off their game.

We would like to welcome to the club our new players, Ben Haughton, Christian Readings, Harrison Fernandez, Joe Gibson, Rhys Shulver and Sebastian Hawkins.

    PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY REPORT

Once again the quality of football on display from Melford was stunning in these two games, the interplay and the quality and vision of passing far outstripping the wildest expectations of the supporters and Management/Coaching staff.

Cornard Dynamos U10s Blues v LMFC U10s Blues

Cornard started the match with a battering ram approach pouring men forward and pursuing the ball with tough tackling and aggressive challenges. Melford weathered the storm well with James Jackson following on from last year’s performances with another calm display at sweeper. Tyler French produced a goal of quality to break the deadlock, nutsing the keeper with his left (wrong) foot after a good run. Cornard equalised with a flukey punt that span over Joel Walters Smith in the Melford goal.

Melford looked nervous after the break and Cornard added two unanswered goals to go 3-1 up.Good teamwork came to the fore at this point with the players calming one another down, this had an immediate effect with Melford relaxing and putting together their passes. The game swung towards Melford and the chances started to come. Tom Mason converted a corner from Tyler French beating the advancing keeper, 3-2. Good work from the Cornard keeper to beat out a shot which Tyler French collected and crossed back in to the danger area, then followed a goalmouth scramble, which Haydn Taylor ended with a well-taken shot, 3-3.

Melford were keeping the ball well and the Cornard players started to look very tired. The game looked one sided at the end, 3-3 being the final result, with most spectators agreeing an extra five minutes play may well have seen Melford beating a now rattled looking Cornard.

Cornard Dynamos U10s Reds v LMFC U10s Reds

Melford started strongly with Tyler French moving in to centre Midfield to cover for holiday absentees, Tyler opened the scoring for Melford with a well taken one-on-one.  Christian Readings playing in his first 7 aside game showing superb control playing simple yet flawless football giving the easy ball and moving to collect the return pass ensuring the game was played deep in the Cornard half. William Helms made a strong run from centre back collecting a one two from Haydn Taylor and blasting it left footed in to the top corner, 0-2.

The game continued in the second half quite one sided with Melford playing neat passing football, further goals from Joe Gibson (scoring on his debut) and Ben Kemsley put Melford 4-0 up.  Sebastian Hawkins proved to be a massive thorn in Cornard's side with strong running and effective tackling.  Cornard showed excellent spirit coming back to score two late goals.

UNDER 10'S UPDATE FROM MANAGER MIKE HELMS (July 18, 2007)

The Under 10's began training at Cordel Place on Saturday 14th July. Training will be at Bernies Pitch from 09:30 till 11:00 Saturday mornings from 21st July.

Mike Helms and Adam Coleman are delighted to announce new additions to the coaching team. Joining the goalkeeping coach Petre Keruish on the coaching staff are Tony French and Tim Jackson, we have also had interest shown by a couple of other Long Melford first team players willing to come and take a small group for some specialist skills training.

Considering it was the first session of the new season it was a really good turn out with 20 players showing up. It was an excellent session with Adam Coleman and the coaches Tony French and Tim Jackson working with the players in smaller groups on a rotation basis. The boys showed a great level of enthusiasim and are clearly glad to be back.

UNDER 16'S ALLIANCE TRIALS A GREAT SUCCESS (July 01, 2007)

Dave King's Under 16's Alliance campaign took a big step forward yesterday, as their second session of trials at Long Melford Primary School took place.

Thirteen members of last season's squad attended the trials, along with three new very talented lads who have said they are ready to commit to the new season.

Midfielder George Katama, who played for Sicklesmere last season, showed everyone yesterday what terrific pace he has.

It was also great to welcome back Joe Boreham to the club after spells at Ipswich Town and Cornard. Joe will be a great asset to the team with his 100% commitment in the centre of midfield.

Jamie Bell (our Under 15's captain) was asked to come along to the trials by Dave, and he did not look out of place with his good technique and strength.

There was also great news for the lads off the pitch yesterday, when Jim Walker agreed to once again sponsor the team for the new season. Captain Jack Howard and Manager Dave King, on behalf of all the lads, would like to thank Jim for his continued support.

Alliance Secretary Richard Coleman said he was thoroughly impressed with our facilities, and passed on his praise to all concerned.

LONG MELFORD FC COLTS TO RUN 15 TEAMS FOR NEW SEASON (June 19, 2007)

Long Melford FC Colts will be running 15 teams for the 2007/08 season, beginning at Under 8s level up to Trevor Warren's Under 18's team - who play in the Ridgeons Youth League South Division. The club also runs a Saturday Soccer School under the guidance of Mark Roberts.

For the first time this season the Colts will be running a Girls team. Phil Grindrod is their manager, and the team will compete in the Under 16's division of the Suffolk Girls League.

The remainder of the Colts teams will, as last season, compete in the Colchester & District Youth League. The exception is of course Dave King's Under 16's team who, after a successful 2006/07 in which they finished 3rd in the highly competitive Under 15's A League, have been accepted into the Eastern Junior Alliance. They will compete in the Northern Section against the likes of Heybridge Swifts and Newmarket Town, and all concerned are relishing the prospect of testing themselves at a higher level.

NEXT SEASON'S UNDER 16'S PREPARE FOR ALLIANCE CAMPAIGN (May 30, 2007)

It has been confirmed that Dave King's Long Melford Under 16's side (last season's Under 15's Blues) have been accepted to compete in the Eastern Junior Alliance League (Northern Section) for the new 2007/08 season.

The Eastern Junior Alliance arguably  provides the best standard of football excellence outside of youth teams representing the Coca Cola League Football League clubs. All of the teams competing in this league are drawn from the senior clubs in Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Hertfordshire,London and Middlesex and who wish to provide their youth players with probably the highest standard of football available in the South East.

It will therefore be a tough step up from the Colchester & District League for Dave and his squad, but after such a successful 2006/07 season there is every reason to believe they can thrive at a higher level.

The Under 16's will enter a league made up of the following teams:-

    Brantham Athletic
    Heybridge Swifts
    Melton St Audrys
    Needham Market
    Newmarket Town
    Stanway Rovers
    Whitton United
    Woodbridge Town

Dave will be having trials in order to establish his squad for the new season, if anybody is interested in joining please contact him on 07974251150 or email  kingarchitectural@yahoo.co.uk.
