UPDATE FROM 1ST TEAM MANAGER GEOFF CLEAL (February 08, 2010)
" First of all may I start by saying thank you to the
Directors for offering me the Manager’s position next season, it gives
everyone stability within the club which is very important, especially for the
players, and I have gladly accepted it.
I can now plan much further
ahead, as I said when I first took over, progression will take time and I think
looking at the squad we have now and how we are starting to gel the progression
can already be seen. Its a talented squad will lots of potential, what I want now
is for them all to stay together and work hard at training.
I can’t
emphasise enough how important training is and my team is picked from a squad,
a strong squad. There is no first name on the team sheet every week, everyone
has an even chance to be picked, my advice is when you get that shirt do all
you can to hang on to it.
I look carefully at players’ attitude at training and their
attendance figures as if you are not there I can’t coach you, but there may be
someone else who plays in your position who is there and biting at the bit.
Don’t take your selection for granted, you have to earn it and keep it.
The
game against Cornard was sadly called off after all the players had turned up,
how things have changed, we couldn’t have had Health and Safety in my day, as
all we needed was to see the line and have a yellow ball and it was “Game On”.
Never mind, it’s rearranged for next Wednesday 10th February.
Well
done to the Reserves, U18s, and our Sunday side, great results keep training and
more will come. "
