A LOOK AHEAD TO MONDAY'S LOCAL DERBY (January 29, 2010)
The Reserves are at home to Harwich & Parkeston Reserves on Saturday, the next 1st Team match is on Monday when Cornard United are the visitors to Stoneylands (7.45pm ko).
In recent years, the local bragging rights have belonged to Cornard. The last time Melford beat Cornard was back in December 2007 (a 4-0 home win). Since then Cornard have taken 7 points from a possible 9 against Melford.
As is often the case when local teams play each other, several players are likely to be playing against their old clubs on Monday. The Cornard squad includes Craig Rulton, Paul Walker, Danny Stokes and Tommy Wiffen. However, surprisingly there are no former Cornard players in the Melford squad.
Looking ahead to Monday's match, Melford boss Geoff Cleal said: "I hope everyone enjoys this belated local derby and it’s played in the spirit normally associated with derbies. Both clubs need the points and that will also put a little more pressure on the players and give the game a bit more edge."
