After a good build up to the final game of 2009, Melford came unstuck against a rampant Halstead Town
at Rosemary Lane
and were hit for six. The only player to excel was keeper Jack Sibley and the
rest of the team did not perform to the standard that could be expected.
To
this end the Managers had the team in for some tough training on Wednesday night
so hopefully on Saturday we will be able to overturn Saffron Walden
Town at Stoneylands.
Leaving the negative defeat behind it is good to hear that a couple of missing
players are coming back to the Club, and with Ashley Skeggs hopefully
completing his ban shortly(12/12/09 imposed), and Gary McSweeney
back from holiday, we should be back to full strength early in 2010. Also hopes
are that one or two players may be coming in on loan from over the Essex border, and of course we hopefully have Sam Banya
making his first team home debut this Saturday.
The last three years or so have
been pretty torrid in the Ridgeons League for Melford but without doubt the
present team is the best we have had over that period, so come on lads that get
climbing up that table!
With the arrival of Adie Perry ably assisted by
“Cookie” and young Stu Alston, the Reserves are starting to
shape into a real team and should pick up more points in the New Year. As
usual our excellent Youth Section with ( ten?) teams are giving an
excellent supply chain for the Club, it is perhaps surprising that at Under 18s
level we never seem to get consideration at County representative
level, oversight or what?
Anyway to all at LMFC every success in
2010, and best wishes to all who work so hard to keep local football
alive and well in Suffolk.
