HALSTEAD TOWN 6 LONG MELFORD 0: MATCH REPORT FROM ROSEMARY LANE (December 28, 2009)
6 - 0
Ridgeons League Division One, Monday 28 December 2009, 3.00pm KO
The Suffolk
team were hit for six by a rampant Halstead team, with the scoreline being only
confined to single figures by some great saves from Melford keeper Jack Sibley and
some erratic shooting from Halstead.
It was Melford who started brightly with
Flack beating keeper Wootten with a back header only for Stamp to hook the ball
off the goal line, the procedure being repeated when Costello saw his goal
bound shot headed away by Townrow.
Then for Melford the
turmoil started, on seven minutes defender Hagger made a last ditch tackle on
Townrow, and despite the Melford protests, the referee deemed it to be a penalty,
with TOWNROW sending Sibley the wrong way.
From thereon the play was
dominated by the home team. Ten minutes later TOWNROW shot home from an acute
angle, then on 33 minutes BRYANT added the the third holding off several
Melford defenders to net from close range. Straight from the kickoff TOWNROW
headed home.
Although Melford upped their game in the second half
they had no answer to the passing and running skills of the home team with
STAMP cracking home a fine shot and the final goal coming from O” LEARY.
A positive end for Halstead but back to the drawing board for Melford, if
they want to start the new year in a winning mode.
