NEXT SEASON'S U18S WIN AT SOHAM LAST NIGHT : REPORT FROM JAMIE ARRON (April 15, 2008)
U18 defender Jamie Arron reports on last night's friendly at Soham Town Rangers
The game started with Melford having a lot of the possession, spreading the ball out wide, and making use of the big pitch with King and Hunt.
Not too long into the game and Melford went one nil up, pressure on the defence meant they couldn't clear their lines properly, and MARTIN lashed in an 18 yard strike.
This spurred Melford on further and they had most of the play, with the defence handling anything Soham had to offer. Around the 30 minute mark, some great play again from the Midfield and PERRY scored Melford's second.
Melford took their foot off after this, which allowed Soham to come back into the game, with the last 15 mins of the half sharing posession and little chances.
The second half started a lot the like the first ended, Weaver and Perry causing their defence problems, but little clear chances were made. Soham were sticking to the defence clearing their lines and their forwards running on, they had one chance which went just wide of the post.
This seemed to work as a reality check and Melford pushed on for a third, the Soham defence started falling to the pressure resulting in a lot of corners, and BARR rose to meet the ball from Weaver corner and made it three.
Melford never really matched their first half performance but kept finding themselves with chances, Perry set up King for but he blazed it over from 10 yards.
A few more Melford corners, and the final goal came, CLARK left his defender and headed for his first goal for some time.
Melford saw the game out with a comfortable and well deserved victory. Great passing play at times. Very promising signs for next season.
FINAL SCORE: Soham Town Rangers 0 Long Melford 4
