COMFORTABLE VICTORY FOR FIRST TEAM AT FAKENHAM TOWN (September 08, 2007)
The First Team won 4-0 at Fakenham Town earlier today to record their first Ridgeons League First Division win of the season and their first victory away from Stoneylands since 2006.
The outcome of the match was never in much doubt with Melford dominating throughout, with the home side creating very little in the way of chances. Melford should really have scored a lot more goals but lots of chances went begging throughout the afternoon.
The early exchanges were relatively even with Melford getting off to a sloppy start, but slowly they began to get their passing game going and after approximately 20 minutes Ashley Skeggs rifled home after a spell of pressure.
On 35 minutes a well-judged through ball from David Kenyon released Steve Chisholm, who was up ended by the Fakenham keeper as he got his shot way but the ball fell to Paul Walker to slot home for his first of the season.
Melford continued to apply pressure with Skeggs forcing an excellent save from the home keeper with a firm drive. 2-0 up at half-time.
The home side had a worrying spell just after the break where it looked like they might get themselves back into the match, forcing a few corners and growing in confidence.
12 minutes after the re-start Errol Durell had to go off with an ankle injury and Luke Simpson took his place at right-back. Five minutes later Danny Brind was replaced by Carl Daw on the left wing, followed soon after by Steve Adams replacing Dan Grindrod.
Fakenham's chances of getting anything from the game ended around the 70 minute mark when an excellent pass from Matthew Wilson set Kenyon on his way and he finished clinically.
Soon after this, hard work from Skeggs resulted in a chance falling to substitute Luke Simpson coming up in support on the right who finished confidently, low into the corner.
More chances came and went and it's disappointing that no more goals were scored as our goal difference would have been improved and our league standing enhanced. We could have gone ahead of a couple more sides if we'd scored two more goals but nevertheless this was a welcome victory and a vital three points.
