OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AGAINST TIPTREE LAST NIGHT GOES UNREWARDED (September 05, 2007)
An excellent performance against promotion hopefuls Tiptree United last night sadly went unrewarded. We were 2-1 up for a large period of the game thanks to goals from Matthew Wilson and Steve Chisholm but switched off around the 75 minute mark and conceded two goals - both unmarked headers from crosses.

It was a great night to be involved with Long Melford FC - a large crowd of 105, a very even and competitive match and a fantastic atmosphere that was largely generated by supporters from our near neighbours AFC Sudbury who had come along to cheer us on.

Matt Wilson gave us an early lead with a low drive, his first for the club and it could hardly have been a better one. Tiptree hit back after a spell of sustained pressure but a brave Steve Chisholm header from an excellent Dan Grindrod free kick restored our lead.

The rest of the match was even, with both sides going close at times. We had chances to put the match out of Tiptree's reach but the visitors also had good opportunities throughout the game.

Perhaps a draw would have been the fairer result, but we should be proud of our team's performance as, despite the defeat, this was an excellent night for the club.
