DISAPPOINTING START TO THE SEASON CONTINUES WITH HEAVY HOME DEFEAT (August 25, 2007)
The performance of Melford was described as one supporter as abject and that was a fairly accurate description that could be attached to this display.
Although improved Thetford looked by comparison to Melford title contenders to the independent observer. After only barely a minute Melford went behind Pratt missed his clearance and there was the hungry PASK to push the ball home from close range.
For a moment it looked like a contest when Pratt headed onto the underside of the bar with the ball being half over the goal line, then from another corner Skeggs neatly chipped the ball with his back to the goal onto the crossbar.
But is was not to be and Thetford on 21 minutes went further ahead this time PASK got goal side of his marker, Adams mis kicked his clearance and the striker twisted and turned eventually firing in an excellent shot .
Although Melford continued to battle they lacked fluency and method in their approach work and made little impact.
One minute into the second half and Melford went further behind, this time CATCHPOLE made space down the left flank and cut in without real challenge and planted the ball wide of keeper Rulton.
Things were looking pretty dismal for the Villagers although in a brief flurry Andy Hughes brought a diving save out of keeper Hulyer with a free kick and then Grindrod turned and fired in an effort that came off the post with the keeper beaten.
It was the visitors who consolidated their lead, this time Jones made space down the right flank and his cross was met by PASK who drove the ball home.
A vastly improved Thetford, but at the moment Melford have to show that they have improved from the latter part of last season. when they struggled to avoid finishing at the bottom of the League
