DISAPPOINTING START AS FIRST TEAM LET TWO GOAL LEAD SLIP AT MARCH (August 11, 2007)

march town united

This was a disappointing end score for Melford who went in at the half time interval with a two goal lead. The home team for much of the game looked sharper, fitter and more accomplished on the ball, with Melford missing the midfield scheming of the injured Danny Brind and the solid defending of Errol Durell.

In a torrid opening ten minutes Melford survived a lot of home pressure, and went into the lead after 13 minutes. Debutant Jack Baker put in an excellent diagonal ball to find another newcomer ASHLEY SKEGGS in acres of space down the right flank, the youngster cut in on the defence and scored an excellent well placed goal from twenty yards giving keeper Brooks no chance.

This inspired Melford with a corner from Daw being fisted away from goal by keeper Brooks, and soon after both Kenyon and Wilson put shots wide of the goal.

Again Melford reduced the tempo and March came back with Alder clearing off the line from the diminutive Ashley Brand, but it was Melford who increased their lead.

On 36 minutes keeper Rulton who has excellent kicking ability found the opposing box and there was ASHLEY SKEGGS to beat everyone to the ball to lob keeper Brooks.

Just before the interval the home team fought hard to get back into the game  with the  tricky Karana tormenting the Melford defence, and the individual skills of Ashley Brand and Luke Pepper putting Melford under pressure

The second half belonged to March with Melford only showing glimpses of any real constructive football.Just after Grindrod had cleared the March bar for Melford the first goal came for March on 70 minutes.

Again Karana memerised the Melford defence, skipped into the box,and fell to the ground after contact with defender Alder. With some protest from Melford, referee Titman pointed to the spot and  upstepped  LUKE PEPPER to send Rulton the wrong way.

Six minutes later  March  were level, with the Melford defence static, looking for the offside flag,PEPPER sneaked in to claim his second goal.  This fired Melford into a response and they forced three corners in succession, before the third was taken the referee booked Chilsholm and  Gilbert for a pushing incident in the box.,but the corner like the others came to no avail.

Then the killer blow came for Melford when five minutes into added time a long ball from keeper  Brooks found the Melford box,the Melford defence and keeper Rulton came to clear but somehow the tiny ASHLEY BRAND stole in to toe punt the ball into the net.
