Long Melford 2 Dedham Old Boys 2
(Pre-season friendly, Saturday 4th August 2007)
Minus key players Melford struggled to find real fluency against their Border League opposition, and in the end a draw was a fair reflection of the game.
The visitors took the lead after six minutes when MICHAEL OWEN got behind the Melford defence and turned to shoot home from five yards. On sixteen minutes Melford almost levelled when a fierce effort from Durell was well saved by keeper Worster.
On 29 minutes Melford found the equaliser when a great ball into the box from the busy Bevis found CARL DAW who finished with great precision. Three minutes into the second period Ashley Skeggs was upended in the penalty area,up stepped the dependable Tony French but his soft effort from the spot was easily saved by keeper Worster.
With four minutes remaining it seemed the Border Leaguers had stolen the game when GRIFFITHS bundled home from a corner, but two minutes later Melford levelled, from a midfield position Skeggs played in GRINDROD with a fine ball and the Melford youngster with great composure finished from ten yards.
